As far as I'm aware, you can only place stuff like that counter on your profile page. So it'll keep track of how many people are watching your profile but noting else.

It may depend on what style you're using though. LJ could display html code in the sidebar (the "blurb") but apparently that doesn't work over here. Yet. Otherwise I would have suggested you put the code there.
